Luxury Built-In Media Wall, Display & Bar Joinery

Muswell Hill, London | Project Value: £15,000–£30,000

Project Overview

This project involved the design and manufacture of a full-length, bespoke built-in joinery wall for a London home, combining media, display shelving, concealed storage and a drinks cabinet into one cohesive architectural feature.

The client wanted a refined, timeless solution that would elevate the living space while providing substantial, well-organised storage, without the room feeling heavy or over-furnished.

The Brief

The client was looking for:

  • A luxury built-in solution spanning the full length of the living area
  • Integrated media, shelving and bar storage within a single design
  • A balance between open display and concealed storage
  • A calm, elegant aesthetic appropriate for a high-end residential interior

This was a design-led bespoke project, requiring careful consideration of proportions, materials and detailing.

Design Challenges & Our Approach

Creating Scale Without Visual Weight

Given the length and prominence of the wall, the primary challenge was ensuring the joinery felt architectural and refined, rather than bulky.

We achieved this by:

  • Combining lower closed cabinetry with upper open shelving
  • Introducing rhythm and spacing within the shelving layout
  • Keeping sightlines open to maintain a sense of lightness across the room

Integrated Media & Storage

The media area was carefully incorporated into the overall composition rather than treated as a separate element. This allowed the television, shelving and cabinetry to sit cohesively within the wider joinery wall.

Deep lower cabinets provide generous concealed storage, while the open shelving above offers space for curated objects, books and artwork.

Drinks & Bar Storage

A dedicated bar section was integrated into the design, featuring:

  • Glazed cabinetry for drinks display
  • Dark internal finishes to add depth and contrast
  • Seamless integration with the surrounding joinery

This element introduces a subtle sense of luxury and functionality without dominating the space.

Furniture-Like Detailing

To elevate the joinery beyond standard cabinetry, we focused heavily on furniture-style detailing, including:

  • Carefully proportioned panelled doors
  • A continuous timber worktop running through the design
  • Soft, understated junctions between materials

The result is a built-in that feels crafted and intentional, rather than purely functional.

The Final Solution

The completed installation delivers a bespoke, full-height joinery wall that seamlessly integrates:

  • Built-in media section
  • Open display shelving
  • Concealed lower storage
  • Integrated bar and drinks cabinetry

The design enhances both the functionality and architectural quality of the space, creating a strong focal point while remaining elegant and understated.

Materials & Finishes

  • Primary timber elements: Solid walnut, used to introduce warmth, depth and a furniture-grade finish within the built-in joinery
  • Painted cabinetry: Spray-painted MDF, finished to a smooth, flawless standard for a refined architectural look
  • Shelving & glazing: Glass shelves and glazed doors, allowing light to flow through the joinery while showcasing selected items
  • Integrated lighting: Häfele LED lighting, discreetly integrated to highlight shelving, enhance depth and add a subtle sense of luxury

All materials were carefully selected to balance durability, visual refinement and long-term performance, ensuring the joinery feels both architectural and furniture-like within the space.
