How much does bespoke furniture cost in London? There is no reliable single figure for every project. A fitted alcove cabinet, a full kitchen and joinery across several rooms involve different amounts of design work, materials, manufacture and installation.
C-made does not publish a fixed price list because each quotation is based on the actual brief and specification. This guide explains what changes the cost, how different types of furniture affect the scope, and what to check before accepting a quote. It is intended to help you have a more useful budget conversation—not to suggest that every project fits a standard price band.
If you already have drawings, room measurements or photographs, share them when making an enquiry. They help define the work that needs to be priced. You can also explore the furniture C-made designs and makes before deciding which elements belong in your brief.

What Actually Drives the Cost of Bespoke Furniture
Before looking at categories, it helps to understand the variables that affect price across all types of bespoke joinery:
1. Size and Scope
The most obvious factor. More linear metres of cabinetry means more materials, more manufacturing time and more installation time. A wardrobe that fills one alcove is a fundamentally different scope to a full walk-in dressing room. This is not just about volume — larger projects also require more complex site management and coordination.
2. Material Specification
The difference between a good bespoke piece and an exceptional one is often in the materials. Premium moisture-resistant boards, solid hardwood elements, quality veneers and high-grade hardware (Blum, Hafele) cost more than their budget equivalents — and perform far better over time. When evaluating quotes, material specification is one of the most important things to check.
3. Finish Complexity
A painted finish — spray-applied in a workshop — is the most commonly requested finish and represents excellent value for the result achieved. Lacquered finishes, veneer work, fluted door panels, routed profiles and glazed doors all add cost because they add manufacturing time and skill. Simple shaker doors cost less than bespoke profiled doors; open shelving costs less than doors and drawers.
4. Internal Specification
What is inside the furniture matters as much as what is outside. A wardrobe with only hanging rails costs less than one with integrated drawer systems, pull-out shoe racks, an island unit and built-in lighting. A desk with open knee space costs less than one with integrated cable management, drawer systems and a printer housing. Every functional element you add has a cost — but also a value to your daily use of the piece.
5. Site Complexity
London homes present installation challenges that simpler sites do not. Uneven floors and walls, restricted access, existing cornicing and skirtings that need to be matched, ceiling heights that vary across a room — all of these add time and skill to an installation. A ground-floor flat with direct access costs less to install in than a third-floor flat in a period conversion with a narrow staircase.

How Costs Vary by Furniture Type
The examples below are not price ranges. They show why projects in different rooms—and even two projects in the same room—can require very different quotations. The agreed dimensions, internal layout, finish, hardware and installation conditions matter more than the category name alone.
Fitted Wardrobes and Walk-in Wardrobes
A single fitted wardrobe in London — filling one alcove or a wall section, with hanging, shelving and drawers — is one of the more accessible entry points for bespoke joinery. Walk-in wardrobes and full dressing rooms are larger commissions with proportionally more material, manufacturing and installation involved. The transformation in both cases is significant: a room that was functional becomes a room that is genuinely enjoyable to use every day.
Bespoke Kitchen Furniture
Kitchen cabinetry brings several cost decisions together: the number and type of units, drawers and internal fittings, appliance housing, door finishes and coordination with worktops and other trades. A quotation should make clear which of these elements C-made will provide and which are supplied separately. See our bespoke kitchen furniture service for the types of cabinetry we design and manufacture.
Fitted Home Office Furniture
A fitted home office may be a contained desk-and-shelving commission or joinery designed for an entire room. Drawers, concealed storage, cable routes, lighting provision and the level of finish all affect the scope. Define the equipment and storage requirements before comparing quotations; a larger unit is not necessarily more complex than a smaller one with many detailed components.
Alcove Units and Fitted Cupboards
Bespoke alcove furniture in London — the chimney breast alcove shelving and cupboards that appear in almost every period London home — tends to be among the more contained bespoke commissions in terms of scope. The transformation they create, however, is disproportionate to their size: a properly fitted alcove unit reads as part of the original architecture of the room.
Bathroom Furniture
Bespoke bathroom furniture in London — vanity units, fitted cabinets, mirrored units — requires specific materials and finish specifications for moisture resistance. The pricing reflects this: waterproof materials, sealed carcasses and bathroom-rated hardware cost more than their standard equivalents, and the installation requires coordination with plumbing positions that adds complexity.
Media Units and TV Walls
Fitted media furniture ranges from a relatively simple media unit — an alcove piece with integrated TV housing, shelving and storage — to a full media wall that occupies an entire room elevation. The addition of integrated cable management, equipment cooling, speaker housing and lighting significantly affects both cost and manufacturing complexity.
How to Evaluate a Bespoke Furniture Quote
A useful quotation should make it possible to understand what you are buying, not just the total price. Before accepting it, check:
- Scope: Which pieces, internal fittings and finishes are included? What is expressly excluded?
- Specification: Are the proposed materials, hardware and finish described clearly enough to compare with another quote?
- Process: Does the price include design development, drawings, manufacture, delivery and installation, where applicable?
- Approvals: Which drawings or samples will you review before manufacture, and who gives final approval?
- Changes: How will a change to the agreed design affect the price or programme?
- Aftercare: What guarantee applies, and what are its conditions or exclusions?
At C-made, the project scope and quotation are agreed before the deposit secures the commission. Detailed technical drawings are then reviewed before manufacture. You can read more about the C-made process.

When Is Bespoke Furniture Worth the Cost?
Bespoke furniture makes most sense when a standard piece cannot answer the brief well: the room has unusual dimensions, storage needs to be planned precisely, or the furniture must relate closely to the wider interior. The value is in how well the finished work serves that particular space and the people using it.
That does not mean every room needs a fully bespoke solution. Before commissioning, decide which details genuinely matter to the project and which are simply preferences. A clear brief helps the maker propose an appropriate specification and helps you judge whether the quotation represents value for what will actually be delivered.
